Change your password, download your data or delete your account

Everything about your account is in Settings. Your username is permanent and cannot be changed.

Change your password

In Settings → Account, open Change password, enter your current password and a new one twice. Your other devices are signed out; sign in there again with the new password.

Create a new recovery code

If you think someone saw your recovery kit, go to Settings → Recovery code. You need your password and your current code, so someone who only stole your password cannot lock you out. The old code stops working immediately; save the new kit.

Download your data

Settings → Your data → Download my data gives you a file with everything our server stores about your account. Encrypted items are included as stored: we cannot read them, and neither can anyone else without your keys. See the privacy policy for what we keep and for how long.

Choose a theme

In Settings → Appearance, choose System (follows your device), Dark or Light.

Delete your account

1. Go to Settings → Delete account.
2. Type your username to confirm, enter your password, and select Delete my account permanently.

This deletes your account, keys, backups, devices and sessions, and your conversations end. Only your username is kept, retired, so that nobody can ever register it and pose as you. This cannot be undone.
