Forgot your password? Use your recovery code
Reset your password with the recovery code from your recovery kit, and what happens if you have lost both.
Nodz has no email address or phone number on file, so there is no reset link. Instead you use the recovery code from the recovery kit you saved when you created your account.
Reset your password
- Open Sign in and select Forgot password?
- Enter your username and your recovery code. Dashes and spaces are optional.
- Choose a new password (at least 12 characters) and repeat it.
- Select Recover account. Your device checks the code, sets the new password and restores your encryption keys.
For your safety, every other device is signed out. Sign in there again with your new password.
Afterwards, create a new recovery code in Settings → Recovery code, especially if you are not sure who else might have seen the old one.
I have lost my recovery code too
If you still know your password, you can keep using Nodz on the devices where you are signed in. Without the code, though, you cannot reset a forgotten password or set up a new device, and you cannot create a new code either: that needs the current one, so that a password thief cannot lock you out. Keep your password safe, for example in a password manager.
If you have lost both your password and your recovery code, the account cannot be recovered. That is the price of having no back door: nobody, including Nodz, can take over your account by pretending to be you. You can create a new account with a different username.
Recovery code or password: what is the difference?
- Your password signs you in.
- Your recovery code resets the password and unlocks the encrypted backup of your keys, for example on a new device.
Anyone with your recovery code can take over your account, so never share it. Nodz staff will never ask for it.
