Invite people with a link or QR code
Create private invitation links and QR codes, choose how long they work, approve who joins, and let people join without showing their username.
An invitation link (or its QR code) lets people reach you without knowing or searching for your username. You decide how long it works, how often it can be used, what the other person sees of you, and whether you approve each person.
Create an invitation
- In Chats, select Invite link.
- Under New invitation, give it a name only you see (for example Family or Conference), so you know who joined through which link.
- Choose how long it is valid (1 hour to 30 days) and how often it can be used (once, 10 times or unlimited).
- Choose whether people who join see your username. Untick it to show a name of your choice instead, or nothing at all.
- Leave Let me approve each person on if you want to decide before anyone can chat with you.
- Select Create link, then Copy link, Share… or show the QR code.
The part of the link after # never reaches our server. Share the link privately; if it ends up somewhere it should not, select Revoke in Your invitations.
Join with an invitation
- Open the link. Without an account you can create one first; the invitation is kept while you do.
- Choose whether to show your username. If you do not, the other person sees you as a guest and cannot find your username.
- Select Send join request. The conversation opens as soon as the other person accepts.
Using one of the apps? Links open in your browser. Copy the link instead and paste it in the app under Invitations → Received an invitation link?.
Guests
A guest's messages are end-to-end encrypted like all others, but because there is no username, there is no safety number to compare. Use a username when you need to be certain who you are talking to.
