Send photos, files and emoji

Send end-to-end encrypted files up to 25 MB, how long they stay available, and how to save them.

Photos and files are encrypted on your device before they are uploaded. Our server stores only an unreadable, padded blob; the key, the file name and the type travel inside the end-to-end encrypted message.

Send a file

  1. Open a conversation.
  2. Select Send a file (the paperclip) and choose a file of at most 25 MB.
  3. Nodz encrypts and sends it. Photos (PNG, JPEG, GIF and WebP) are shown in the chat; other files appear as a download.

Save a file you received

Select the file to download it. Your device fetches the encrypted file and decrypts it locally. In the Android app it is saved to your Downloads folder.

Files are kept for 30 days. After that they are deleted from our server and can no longer be downloaded, so save anything you want to keep.

Emoji

Select the emoji button next to the message field to open the picker. A message with only emoji is shown larger.

Why the 25 MB limit?

Every file is encrypted and decrypted on your device, and every group member downloads its own copy. The limit keeps that fast on phones and keeps the service affordable without ads.
