Start a chat with someone
Find someone by their exact username, accept or decline message requests, and block people you do not want to hear from.
There are two ways to start a conversation: by someone's exact username, or with an invitation link. Every conversation is end-to-end encrypted.
Start a chat by username
- Open Chats.
- Type the person's exact username in Start a chat by username (with or without @) and select Start chat.
- Write your first message. It is delivered as a request: the other person decides whether to accept.
Nodz has no search or directory. You have to know the username exactly, and people can switch off being found by username (see Who can find and message you). If someone cannot be found, ask them for an invitation link instead.
If the chat says Waiting for them to come online, the other person has not opened Nodz since you wrote. Your message waits for them, sealed.
Requests from other people
When someone writes to you for the first time, it appears under Requests in your chats. They do not know whether you have seen it until you act:
- Accept: the conversation opens and you can reply.
- Decline: the request disappears.
- Block: the request disappears and you will not get messages from this account again. You can unblock people in Settings → Blocked people.
